The earthly pilgrimage of Mrs. Lena Annie Latham Goins, 86, of 912 Lee Street, Asheboro, NC, came to an end on Friday, October 23, 2009, at the Hinkle Hospice Home, Lexington, when our Heavenly Father informed our mom that her Heavenly mansion was completed.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Monday, October 26, 2009, at West Asheboro Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Sam Hicks officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery.

The earthly pilgrimage of Mrs. Goins began on March 29, 1923, in Morganton, NC. She was the youngest of eight children, a daughter of the late Russell and Alice Misseldine Latham. Lena grew up attending Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church where she was saved in her early teens. She moved her membership to West Asheboro Baptist Church shortly after its forming in 1952. There she was a faithful member until going to be with the Lord. She enjoyed tending the nursery for many, many years during the worship service and Sunday school. She tirelessly taught all age groups in Sunday school for many years, the last class she taught was the Senior Adults. She remained in the class until she was too weak to attend church. She also participated in the choir until her vocal chords could no longer hold those beautiful notes. As anyone in the church could tell, she never let an opportunity pass by without giving her testimony for Jesus Christ. She loved West Asheboro Baptist Church, her Savior and her family with a passion. She is now in Heaven singing in that Heavenly choir with a voice more beautiful than ever, waiting for you and me to join her.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Goins was preceded in death by her son, Steve E. Goins.

Survivors include her daughter, Janet G. Ward and husband, John, of Denton; sons, Danny T. Goins, of Manson, NC, Craig A. Goins and wife, Rachel, of Asheboro, Lennie L. Goins and wife, Dee Dee, of Asheboro; grandchildren, Daniel Ward, April Jones, Jennifer Goins, Anthony Goins, Emily Goins, Austin Goins, Nathan Small, Amanda Small, Angela Cagle, Elizabeth Goins, D.J. Goins, Tyre Goins, Tiffany Marley, Michael Poindexter; seventeen great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Ridge Funeral Home from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2009, and other times at the home of Craig and Rachel Goins, 3250 Doris Acres Street, Asheboro, NC.
